We
can replace the transformers in your Classic Preamplifier with our
new MKII Preamplifier transformers. Featuring a 25% larger core
you can benefit from the improved level handling and low frequency
response of the MKII model
The
upgrade is available in either copper or silver versions.
A
customer Mr Paul Eros (formerly of TNT-Audio) wrote to us recently
following this upgrade:
"I
can only describe the upgrade as nothing short of staggering; so
much so in fact that I was initially a little unsure as to what
was happening.
I
have always held the MF Classic in high regard for the neutral way
in which it goes about its job of attenuating and switching
between source signals. With the new transformers installed and
burned in what initially struck me was the way in which the
frequency envelope is extended at either end of the spectrum.
Whilst the bass is definitely blessed with greater definition,
extension and texture its the treble response that in my
system (with valves doing the work) impresses the most. This has
perhaps a lot to do with the improved performance in the bass and
mid but female vocals are now blessed with the sort of quality
that sends shivers running down your spine and has on at least two
occasions moved me to tears. Instrumental timbre and texture is
also greatly enhanced and stringed instruments in particular have
extension, bite and attack without ever stepping over into
stridency.
The
new transformers also open up the soundstage enabling me to hear
deeper into the mix and place instruments more accurately in an
enlarged 3 dimensional space. The stage now extends well beyond
the boundaries of the speakers in the lateral plane and the depth
perspective is now far more pronounced. Its these
perceptions that caused me to question what was going on with the
new transformers. If I perceived the original transformers to be
unquestionably neutral and able to provide unrivalled levels of
transparency and detail were the new ones adding sound effects of
their own. I have finally arrived at the conclusion that the new
transformers, rather than adding anything, provide new levels of
transparency and musical integration over the MkIs.
I
don't know how you've done it nor do I begin to understand the
physics behind the theory but what you have is probably the most
cost effective and worthwhile upgrade any owner of an original MF
classic can make to their system. I would even suggest that at the
price you charge for the upgrade it could be considered the deal
of the decade
